Her Excellency Dame Edith Okowa was born on the 1st of June, 1961 to the respectable family of Mr. and Mrs. Erasmus Mekwuye.

She attended St John’s Anglican Primary school Agbor; Baptist Girls High school Agbor obtained did her Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) from the advanced college Igueben. She later gained admission into the University of Ibadan where she read History and graduated in 1985.Dame Edith Okowa

Dame Edith Okowa started her career as a teacher and rose to the rank of a Permanent Secretary in the Delta State Civil Service.

Before she became the First Lady of Delta State, Dame Edith Okowa got involved in the HELP ministry caring for the orphans, visiting the sick and prisoners.  As soon as she assumed office, the need to reach out on a wider scale gave birth to her pet project the O5 Initiative.

O5 initiative is a non-governmental/non-profit organization, founded on the word of God in Matthew 25:35-36; it is dedicated to impacting lives and giving hope to the hopeless.

Dame Edith Okowa is happily married to His Excellency Senator Dr Ifeanyichukwu Arthur Okowa, the Governor of Delta State and they are blessed with four lovely children and grand Children.  

She has practically involved herself in the well being of the orphans as she has adopted many children who do not have parents, some are now married with children.

Mama Delta as she is fondly called, can best be described as a product of God’s grace, she is a devout Christian, an Evangelist, a philanthropist and a committed Anglican who derives joy in preaching the gospel and reaching out to the unsaved. She hates to see a face without a smile.

The building of godly and responsible family units is of great interest to Mama Delta as her annual program the O5 Couples forum has to a large extent restored peace to many families who once had marital challenges. She is also the Master Chef of the O5 Kitchen where she hosts Children all over the state during the Children’s Day Celebration.
